Blog ranking

One thing that's really inspirational about the Chinese is that, they make almost everything themselves, and use those things as well. They have their own vehicles, they have their own stealth fighters, they have their own satellites, and they have their own search engine, social media and blogging services. And it isn't something that a small, local company runs with limited scope. These services are being used throughout China.

How's that relevant? Well, many popular bloggers in China are using Chinese services such as Sina and Sohu as their host and publishing platform. Forget WordPress or Blogger, the Chinese will have it their own way! While there's nothing wrong with that, it does put us in a bit of a problem. Some of these blogs aren't sub-domain blogs. So their Alexa and Google PR ranking is common and shared with the main domain. So ranking them on the basis of Alexa (or something similar) is useless.

Another thing to consider is, since many of these blogs are in Chinese, their major audience comes from the native Chinese-speaking community. In this regard, the local search engines and publishing platforms can provide a better estimate of what blog is more popular on the basis of total views or hits. Blog evaluation

While evaluating blogs, there's no one or easy parameter that tells us which blog is the best. This is mainly due to the non-availability of accurate analytics data. The most obvious rating system of choice would be Alexa Traffic Rank. But even that's not accurate enough, since it mostly monitors traffic from its toolbar-installed browsers (at least that's how it worked last time we saw). So a site with less traffic could rank above a site with greater traffic in Alexa. But still, it does give us a good estimate of where a website or blog stands.

In our rating, we also take into account audience engagement (comments, likes, followers etc), and Google PageRank, as well as 'blog influence' and Technorati ratings (for the past 180 days). Hence, our ratings might not confer with another ranking system, because we evaluate how influential, how popular, and how well optimized and ranked a blog is. Also, it doesn't matter whether the blog is in English or a native language. The purpose is just to find out what blogs are popular. So here goes!

Blogs are, of course supposed to be ranked based on their traffic stats. But accurate statistics are never revealed out to the public, which is why there is no accurate way to rate blogs based on how popular they are, and how much traffic they get.
Most blogs are usually ranked according to their Alexa Traffic rank. But again, that's not as accurate as you'd wish. And Google PageRank is an absolute rather than a relative scale. So these parameters aren't enough to rank websites.
Another parameter to look at for blog ranking is Technorati rating, and the number of blog feed subscribers. So the ten blogs we have chosen are the top 10 based on all these parameters, and the rating within them is then based upon their worldwide Alexa, so as to prevent any biased decisions. Lance Armstrong Admits Doping in Tour de France

Lance Armstrong today admitted to Oprah Winfrey that he used performance enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France, sources told ABC News.

A government source tells ABC News that Armstrong is now talking with authorities about paying back some of the US Postal Service money from sponsoring his team. He is also talking to authorities about confessing and naming names, giving up others involved in illegal doping. This could result in a reduction of his lifetime ban, according to the source, if Armstrong provides substantial and meaningful information.

Armstrong made the admission in what sources describe as an emotional interview with Winfrey to air on "Oprah's Next Chapter" on Jan. 17.

The 90-minute interview at his home in Austin, Texas, was Armstrong's first since officials stripped him of his world cycling titles in response to doping allegations.

Word of Armstrong's admission comes after a Livestrong official said that Armstrong apologized today to the foundation's staff ahead of his interview.

The disgraced cyclist gathered with about 100 Livestrong Foundation staffers at their Austin headquarters for a meeting that included social workers who deal directly with patients as part of the group's mission to support cancer victims.

Armstrong's "sincere and heartfelt apology" generated lots of tears, spokeswoman Katherine McLane said, adding that he "took responsibility" for the trouble he has caused the foundation.

McLane declined to say whether Armstrong's comments included an admission of doping, just that the cyclist wanted the staff to hear from him in person rather than rely on second-hand accounts.

Armstrong then took questions from the staff.

Armstrong's story has never changed. In front of cameras, microphones, fans, sponsors, cancer survivors -- even under oath -- Lance Armstrong hasn't just denied ever using performance enhancing drugs, he has done so in an indignant, even threatening way.

Armstrong, 41, was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from the sport for life by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency in October 2012, after allegations that he benefited from years of systematic doping, using banned substances and receiving illicit blood transfusions.

"Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling and he deserves to be forgotten in cycling," Pat McQuaid, the president of the International Cycling Union, said at a news conference in Switzerland announcing the decision. "This is a landmark day for cycling."

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency issued a 200-page reportOct. 10 after a wide-scale investigation into Armstrong's alleged use of performance-enhancing substances.

Armstrong won the Tour de France from 1999 to 2005.

According to a source, speaking to ABC News, a representative of Armstrong's once offered to make a donation estimated around $250,000 to the agency, as "60 Minutes Sports" on Showtime first reported.

Lance Armstrong's attorney Tim Herman denied it. "No truth to that story," Herman said. "First Lance heard of it was today. He never made any such contribution or suggestion."

Armstrong, who himself recovered from testicular cancer, created the Lance Armstrong Foundation (now known as the LIVESTRONG Foundation) to help people with cancer cope, as well as foster a community for cancer awareness. Armstrong resigned late last year as chairman of the LIVESTRONG Foundation, which raised millions of dollars in the fight against cancer.

A 5-year-old girl who was abducted from a school by a woman claiming to be her mother was found by a passer-by at a playground early Tuesday and told him, "I've been stolen," authorities said.

When found by a man walking down the street in Upper Darby around 4:40 a.m., the girl was hiding under a piece of playground equipment in a park and wearing only a T-shirt, said Capt. John Darby, of the Philadelphia police department.

She was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but police said she did not appear to be hurt. Darby said officials are screening the girl to determine if she may have been sexually assaulted.

"There were no overt signs of physical injuries to the child," Darby said at a news conference, adding that police have had only preliminary interviews with the girl. "We have a fragile victim here."

The girl was taken Monday morning from the William C. Bryant School, in west Philadelphia. Authorities released surveillance video showing a woman wearing a full-length, black Muslim garment, her face covered by a black veil, taking the girl out of the school. School policies were apparently not followed, according to district officials, as the woman got the girl straight from her classroom after signing in at the front door — without reporting first to the main office.

Her mother had appeared on local media Monday night, tearfully pleading for her safe return, and explaining how she also wears the traditional chador and niqab.

The Associated Press is not naming her because it generally doesn't identify alleged victims of sexual assault.

Darby said the suspect went into the school Monday a short time after the girl's mother had dropped her off there. The woman signed in with a hall monitor and then went straight to the girl's classroom. "She indicated that she was the child's mother," Darby said. "And that she was going to take the child to breakfast."

The suspect apparently knew and targeted the girl, Darby said, but the girl did not know her. However, she appeared to go willingly.

Police are looking for the suspect and trying to track down more information. Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said it appears the girl was driven or walked to the playground. Investigators are trying to track down surveillance footage from the area.

"We believe that the little girl was dumped here," Chitwood said.

Fernando Gallard, a spokesman for the school district, said the district is investigating. The woman signed in at the door, but headed straight to the girl's classroom and did not stop at the office first, Gallard said.

"She said she was there to pick up her daughter," he said, adding that it appears the child went willingly. "She took the child and walked out of the school."

Under the school's policy, he said, the woman should have signed in at the door and then gone straight to the office — not the classroom. "The exchange does not happen at the classroom level," he said.

The district is investigating the incident and reviewing its policies with school employees, Gallard said.

In a different incident at the same school, three 10- and 11-year-old boys were charged in November 2011 after reportedly sexually assaulting another boy in the restroom.

Add Drain Holes!

This lumber rack was made without drain holes at the bottom of the uprights.
